BEN BURGESS, DAVID LEE MURPHY, AND ERNEST TAKE THE LONG WAY HOME IN BACKROAD CRUISING CLIP
TONIGHT: HIXTAPE GOES LIVE FOR THE FIRST TIME TAKING OVER NASHVILLE’S
WHISKEY JAM (8/3)
NASHVILLE, TENN. – Dropping the first-ever official music video for any HIXTAPE hit, the “phenomenon all its own” (Country Now) puts redneck tendencies on film today kickin’ up “Red Dirt Clouds.”
Directed by Justin Clough and shot in Watertown, Tenn., the clip shows all three of the song’s featured collaborators – Ben Burgess, David Lee Murphy, and ERNEST – riding backroads, roaming around a small-town, and narrating the song that became an early fan favorite from the collection’s second volume.
“I really liked the song the first time I heard it,” David Lee Murphy shares. “I’ve known and worked with Ben and ERNEST for several years and I was excited about the possibility to work with them on this project. We had a blast making this video. HARDY, of course, is one of my favorite songwriters & performers on the scene.”
“The video shoot was a dream come true,” Burgess adds. “Hangin’ with David Lee Murphy in the trailer in between filming was something I’ll never forget…pickin’ his brain and hearin’ legendary stories was the cherry on top of a dream come true. It just don’t get better than that!”
Co-written by Burgess and ERNEST alongside Jordan Schmidt and Canaan Smith, “Red Dirt Clouds” is all the more special for the artists that both wrote and recorded it. “We had fun writing this song,” ERNEST shares. “Glad I got to be a part of it as an artist too. Also, super dope to get to sing on a song with a legend like David Lee Murphy, it’s an honor!”
“I love ‘Red Dirt Clouds,’ because it came from real life,” Burgess remembers. “I was driving into Dallas to watch Morgan (Wallen) play, celebrating the ‘Whiskey Glasses’ #1. I was crossing through Memphis and I seen an ole turn road surrounded bye acres and acres, and this truck was kickin’ up the biggest dirt cloud I’ve ever seen. I said man…I wish I was in that truck. I bet that ole boy was havin’ the time of his life. So I went onto the bus and ERNEST was lit up. I said man, I got an idea…’Dirt Road Clouds.’ He says, how bout ‘Red Dirt Clouds…’ and I said damn bubba, that’s it.”
Tonight, the “clever mix of redneck impulse and nostalgia” with “more guests than you could stuff on a single tour bus” (Taste of Country) brings the party to the brand’s first-ever live event, a one-night-only takeover of Nashville’s Whiskey Jam featuring performances from HIXTAPE O.G. HARDY, ERNEST, Jon Langston, Ben Burgess, Sean Stemaly, and Hunter Phelps, with pop ups from David Lee Murphy, Devin Dawson, Travis Denning, Jameson Rodgers, Hillary Lindsey, and more.
